My name is Bill Vincent. I live in Bridgton, Maine, but my work
takes me all over New England. Although I've been setting tile as a trade since
1980, I actually set my first tile in 1967 when my father built our family's
home. I was 10 years old then. I've been involved in tile and terrazzo all my
life. Most of the craftsmen that trained me worked for either my Dad or my
grandfather, or both, for decades, and were "uncles" to me as a child, and let
me say, they were (and still are) some of the best in the business. I've been
blessed with opportunities that have given me extensive experience in all facets
of the trade, from doing small shops and restaurants to malls and corporate
office buildings, saltbox ranches to multi million dollar mansions. I've got at
least some experience in virtually every installation method, and am very
comfortable with most of them. I've got extensive experience with everything
from 1x1 ceramic mosaics right on up to 4'x8' stone slab, from mastic to mudset
(walls or floors) so there's not much in the craft that I can't do.
As an "impetuous youth" just starting out in the trade, I held it against my
father when he had me take out a 5 year apprenticeship, when everyone else was
doing theirs in 3. However, The education that those extra 2 years afforded me
gave me a lot more insight as to the "whys" in the trade, and not just the "how
to's", and as a result, it's made me a better mechanic, giving me the
opportunity to produce a much better quality of work.
My passion is high end custom design. I love designing and installing work that
I know there aren't many around that can match it. However, I also work with
several local showrooms and contractors, doing normal "everyday" installations,
as well. I love taking something unfinished, and making it beautiful, whether it
be renovations or new construction, custom or standard installations.
In addition, I spend a lot of my spare time in forums at several websites, a few
of them being floorstransformed,
John Bridge,
Gardenweb Bathrooms and
thefloorpro, giving advice to homeowners who want to take the plunge and
try their hand at doing their own tile work, or just want to check up and make
sure their installers are doing it right. It's been (and continues to be) a very
informative as well as fulfilling experience, for all concerned.
In the following pages, I'm going to highlight some of the work I've done. I'll
also spend some time talking about some of the more common types of
installations, as well as answering some of the more frequently asked questions.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the pictures. As well as compliments, I would
also appreciate constructive critique from other contractors, engineers or
architects. God knows I'm not perfect, and I don't know everything, but He also
knows that that's my goal-- to be the best I can be. ENJOY!!
